Prof. Ramanathan Ayothiraman joined Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Delhi in December 2008 and is currently working as Professor. Prior to joining IIT Delhi, he worked as Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati for about 4 years. Dr. Ayothiraman has about 25 years of experience in teaching and research, in Geotechnical Engineering.
Prof. Ayothiraman completed his Bachler’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University in April 1998 and Post-Graduation in Soil Mech. And Foundation Engg. from College of Engineering Guindy in Jan’ 2000 with Gold Medal. He obtained his Ph.D. in the area of Soil Dynamics from IIT Madras in May 2005. He has published about 100 papers in reputed journals and conferences. He supervised 12 PhD theses and is currently supervising 11 PhD research scholars.
Prof. Ayothiraman actively organized many short courses, workshops, and national/international conferences. He has delivered invited lectures at several short courses, workshops, seminars and conferences. He is a member of several professional societies and Reviewer of several reputed international and national journals.
Prof. Ayothiraman is also serving as member of BIS for revising National Building Code and Codes related to Machine foundation and Rock mechanics. He has been a consultant providing technical advice for several metro projects including Delhi Metro, Kolkata Metro and Lucknow metro and several other projects of national importance.
Prof. Ayothiraman immensely contributed to the department/institute at different administrative responsibilities. One of the key responsibilities was the Chairperson/Vice-Chairperson from IIT Delhi for the conduct of GATE and JAM examinations from 2020-2023. Hel was the Organizing Chairperson for conducting the recruitment examinations for Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Currently, he is looking after the training and placement of students through Office of Career Services (OCS) as Professor In-Charge, since September 2023.
