  • Dr. Anil Kumar Choudhary is Professor of Civil Engineering at National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur. He graduated in 1990 with a first-class degree with distinction in Civil Engineering from NIT, Jamshedpur (Erstwhile; RIT Jamshedpur, Ranchi University, Ranchi) and secured 2Nd Rank in the University. He earned his M. Tech in Civil Engineering (Soil Mechanics & Foundation Engineering) from NIT, Rourkela (Erstwhile; R.E.C, Rourkela, Sambalpur University) in 1992 and secured 1ST Rank in the University. He completed his Ph. D in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering) in 2003 from NIT, Jamshedpur (Ranchi University, Ranchi).

    He has over 30 years of teaching, research and consultancy experience in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. His primary areas of research include Geosynthetics and their applications, ground improvement, soil-structure interaction, pavement engineering, Environmental geotechnics. He has authored more than 100 research papers and technical articles including 15 referred Journal Publications. He is also a reviewer of several international journals in the areas of Geotechnical/Civil Engineering. He has also published two patents in The Patent Office Journal, India. He has been honored with Dr. K.S.Krishnan Research Fellowship as S.R.F. through BARC, Dept. of Atomic Energy, Govt.  of India, (1993), certificate of merit for his paper published in journal of Inst. of Engg.(India), (2006) and IGS – Shri B. N. Gupta Biennial Award(2015) for the best paperfrom the Indian Geotechnical Society, New Delhi, India. He has also been  awarded “Eminent Engineer Award’’ for the year 2018 by the Institution of Engineers (India), Jharkhand State Centre, Ranchi.

    As a Consulting Geotechnical Engineer, he has successfully provided solutions to the challenging field problems faced by many Engineering organizations in and around Jharkhand. In addition, he has been contributing significantly to the institute’s corporate life and successfully handled important administrative responsibilities which includes his two years tenure as Head, Civil Engineering Department, NIT, Jamshedpur(2013-2015), Coordinator of TEQIP-II & TEQIP-III, a world bank funded MHRD, Govt. of India Project. He has also been instrumental in starting two regular P.G Programmes in Geotechnical Engineering & Water Resources Engineering from the academic session 2013-14 & 2014-2015 respectively at Civil Engineering Department of NIT, Jamshedpur.

    He is a life fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and Indian Geotechnical Society, life member of Indian Roads Congress, Indian Society for Rock Mechanics and Tunnelling Technology, Indian Society for Technical Education and Member of The International society for soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (2018-2022).
