The Silchar chapter of the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) started its journey as 42nd chapter of IGS on 14th May, 2017 with an aim to spread the recent advancement on geotechnical engineering among academicians, research scholars and construction engineers in the North Eastern part of the country. The office of the chapter is housed at NIT Silchar. The chapter is having a strong student wing namely IGS Silchar Student Chapter which is also engaged in dissemination of knowledge on geotechnical engineering among student members.
