Indian Geotechnical Society formed its 46th Local chapter at Aurangabad on 3rd October 2019 at Marathwada Institute of Technology, with the aim of catering to the needs of Professionals and students of Marathwada Region thereby promoting co-operation amongst engineers and scientists for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Soil Dynamics, Engineering Geology, Rock Mechanics, Snow and Ice Mechanics and allied fields and their practical application.The Honorable Secretary of IGS – Dr. J.T. Shahu were the Chief Guest. Dr. Dasaka S. Murthy, Secretary – IGS Mumbai Chapter and Er. Vikas Patil, Chairman- IGS Pune chapter were Guest of honour. Dr. N.G. Patil, Principal, MIT were present. The President of G.S. Mandal’s, MIT group of institutions, Dr. Y.A. Kawade presided over the function. IGS Aurangabad chapter has 30 members. IGS Aurangabad Chapter was awarded IGS AIMIL Best Local chapter award for the year 2021. The 231st IGS Executive Committee meeting was conducted on 11th June 2022 at IGS Aurangabad Chapter, Marathwada Institute of Technology, Aurangabad. IGS Aurangabad Chapter hosted the ‘Ninth Indian Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference’ (9IYGEC) at MIT, Aurangabad on 21-22 March 2023. Also, 234th IGS Executive Committee meeting was conducted on 21st March 2023 at IGS Aurangabad Chapter, MIT, Aurangabad.
