IGS Bengaluru Chapter was founded in 1964 by Prof. B K Ramiah at UVCE Bangalor.e. The Centre was initially called as The Mysore Centre of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering and later renamed as Karnataka Geotechnical Centre (KGC) Bangalore and further renamed to Indian Geotechnical Society Bengaluru Chapter in February 2014. Currently, the Chapter is operting from the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science. Historically, IGS Bengaluru chapter played a vital role in the growth of its national body. Three members of this chapter had served as IGS presidents, seven members had received IGS annual lectures and also received the prestigious IGS Kuckelman award. The chapter has so far organized IGC, the annual conference of the IGS six times and the Asian Regional Conference once. Many of the members of the chapter have been serving in the National Executive Committee of IGS, including three in the current term.
