    The membership of Indian Geotechnical Society is open to individuals, institutions and organizations whose activities/interests are consistent with the aims of the society. The categories of membership and the required qualifications are as follows.

    MEMBERSHIP (LIFE) - the applicant should possess one of the following qualifications.

    (1) Degree in engineering or equivalent
    (2) Diploma in engineering with three years of experince in geotechnical engineering.
    (3) A Master's Degree in science with research experience of at least five years in geotechnical engineering.

    FELLOWSHIP - The members can upgrade their membership to fellowship one can also apply directly for admission to Fellowship, fulfilling following conditions.

    The minimum qualifications for Fellowship are that applicant. (I) Should have a continuous membership of the society of 12 years or more.

    Should have attained the age of 45 on the date of application.
    (ii) Should possess a degree in civil engineering awarded by a recognized university. In addition the applicant should possess one of the following qualifications:
    (I) Should possess a M.Tech/Ph.D/Equivalent. Degree in geotechnical engineering/in an allied area .
    (ii) Should hold the post of Assoc. Professor or above in a reputed engineering college.
    (iii) Should hold the post of Superintending Engineer / Equivalent in Government/ Public Sector Organizations.
    (iv) Should hold the rank of Lt. Colonel or above/equivalent in the armed forces.
    (v) Should hold the position of Chief Executive Officer / Managing Director / Equivalent in private organizations.
    (vi) Should possess high academic credentials / hold a responsible position which can be considered equivalent to the above qualifications.
